Football and Steyn

1. Congrats to the Chilton High School football team, winners of the Class A Division II (don't get my started on that self estemm crap) Title. That being said, WE, as in the residents and alumni of Chilton did NOT win State; the football team won State. I will take no credit for Chilton winning State and neither should anyone not on the team or coaching staff (Sorry Cheerleaders!). Despite that nonsense, which happens with every team from Little League to the pros, I couldn't be happier for them.

2. I highly recommend Mark Steyn's book America Alone. It's about how Muslims will take over Europe through birth rates because Christian Europe (I use that phrase very, very loosely) is not reproducing at replacment levels. Also check out his website. He's a really funny and sharp guy.

Stuck Mojo Video

Thanks to their new video for the song 'Open Season' Stuck Mojo may find themselves in the Jihadists' dog house (or wherever they keep their wives when they're not using them).

The video is at their MySpace page. Go to their blog entry for December 11 to find the link.

One of the first lines is great:
Claimin' that you're a religion of peace
We just don't belive you
We can clearly see through
The madness that you're feeding you're people, Jihad!

Nice!

Exam Question

I got no reaction from my Intro class on this True/False question.

Michael Jackson invented the "invisible hand" while in line at Chuck E. Cheese.

I'm thinking these people have no sense of humor.

Education and Entrepreneurship

Here's a great article on education by Arnold Kling

http://www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=120106A

Couldn't agree with Kling more, especially after experiencing almost a semester in front of the classroom. The only thing I would add under Entry Barriers is either the total abolition of or the drastic reduction of restrictions on child labor and the elimination of the minimum wage, at least for folks under 16. What better way for kids who hate school to learn specific skills and, more importantly, develop a work ethic and learn what it takes to succeed in the real world than by being in the real world, and making a little money while doing it.

Hello Blogosphere!

I'm Matt, the humbly arrogant Misanthropic Economist. For those of you who don't know, a misanthrope is one who hates or distrusts his fellow men. Everyday I spend around people, watching TV, or on the Web tends to confirm my ill feeling toward humanity. I am an economist by training and more importantly by nature. I'm currently an agricultural economics instructor. I plan on pursuing a PhD in economics within the next couple of years.

Due to my misanthropic nature, I will be posting various critiques of my fellow man and what I find to be his folly. Most of these will be of an economic nature, but anything else that gets in my cross hairs is fair game as well.

Enjoy!
